kaRUNungan 2010: Every Learner, A Finisher

By: Vicboy de Lima

For the last Sunday of November, there are 7 fun runs scheduled here in Metro Manila.  Of all these 7 fun runs, I would strongly and sweetly recommend that Batch 83 runners register for and join  the kaRUNungan 2010  fun run organized by the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KFCI).

See the attached poster and please visit the website htttp://www.knowledgechannel.org/karunungan/

Why?  You might ask.  I give you four reasons why.

1.  kaRUNungan 2010 is for a very very very worthy and workable cause.  It aims to support education in our country in a big way.  The funds generated from the fun run will be utilized by  KFCI to produce instructional shows in    English, Science and Math.   KFCI is a non-stock non-profit foundation committed to educating school children through media.  KFCI delivers quality educational content to some 3 million in around 2,000 public elementary schools all over the Philippine archipelago. It broadcasts 14-hour educational  shows based on the government-prescribed curriculum as well as value-based and life skill programs.

2.   The Knowledge Channel is a popular cable channel among kids so I would imagine it will be cool for your kids if you run with them in kaRUNungan 2010.  I did it with my son Marcel and for him this event is a cool one.  Thus, me and my son will be running together in the 5 kms of kaRUNungan 2010.  It will be father and son bonding opportunity for me.  I suggest the same to my batchmates and friends with kids.

3.  The head of KFCI is Rina Lopez-Bautista.  She is an active runner and Batch 83 runners have had the pleasure of meeting her in a couple of fun runs this year:  OROFOLS in July and Rexona Run in August.  She is a kind and dynamic person.

4.  The company I work for, First Balfour is one of the  sponsors of this fun run.  Our company believes in the good that  Knowledge Channel is doing for education here in the Philippines.  The head offices of First Balfour and KFCI are beside each other in the 5th floor of Benpres and what better way to be a good neighbor than being supportive of its advocacy.

So, there I give you 4 reasons.

Every Learner, A finisher.  Our school, Ateneo de Naga, has taught us members of Batch 83 to be men for others.  Joining the kaRUNungan 2010 is one of many  ways to being true to this learning.

Thanks and have a great week.  I know I will.
